Firecracker Jell-O
Jell-O there friends!
It’s summertime! This means it’s time for park play dates, parties, and family barbecues! I don’t know about you, but I HATE showing up to a party empty-handed! Let’s be honest, I don’t always have time to make a yummy treat with a 2-year-old running around! AM I RIGHT?! #momlife Plus, this yummy treat is so affordable to make!
Seriously though, if I take my eyes off of Hudson for more than 3 minutes, he’s either hitting up the all-you-can-eat buffet in the pantry or unraveling an entire roll of toilet paper in the bathroom!
I wish there was something I could make that was so simple, so easy, so perfectly perfect! OH WAIT! Jell-O!
You might think I am crazy but Jell-O is a crowd-pleaser for all ages! From babies to grandparents, Jell-O brings out everyone’s inner child! How could you not love some jigglin’ jolly Jell-O? It’s easy and fun to make! You can even include your children in this fun activity!
Now, let’s take this tasty treat up a notch by making it look like stained glass! “MAMA, SAY WHATTT?!”
Now although this treat is easy, the process of it may take a while. I recommend starting it 2 days before your fun event! Keep in mind, that you have to mix the Jell-O, let it sit overnight, cut it into squares, then let the condensed milk mixture sit overnight as well (or at least 6-7 hours). Let’s get crackin’!
What on Earth is Firecracker Jello?
Firecracker Jell-O is also known as Stained Glass Jell-O. It is a delicious family favorite dessert with a variety of colors. In this case, red and blue Jell-O is being cut into cubes and covered in condensed milk until that solidifies. My favorite time of the year to make this yummy treat is the 4th of July, but you can really make it for any holiday or birthday theme. I love to play around with different Jell-O colors.
Things to Think About
Before getting started here are some questions to ask yourself!:
- What color Jell-O should I use?
- Jell-O has so many fun colors! If you’re celebrating a holiday make it festive by matching the colors with the theme!
- Halloween- Orange
- St.Patrick’s Day- Green
- 4th of July- Red and blue
- Valentine’s Day – Pink or red
- Jell-O has so many fun colors! If you’re celebrating a holiday make it festive by matching the colors with the theme!
- What shape do you want the final mold to be?
- Choose a fun cake pan! You can use a bunt cake pan or even a fun shape to match your party theme! I chose to just use a 9×13 cake pan
- When you cut your squares for the colored glass pieces, you will need a 9×13 pan or a 8×8.
- TIP: After you mix the sweetened condensed milk and gelatin packets, make sure to it is completely cool before pouring it into the Jell-O. If the milk is still warm, it will dissolve your Jell-O cubes.
What you’re going to need?
- 1 (14oz)can of sweetened condensed milk
- 2 unflavored gelatin packets
- Water
- Knife
- 2 6oz boxes of Jell-O boxes (red and blue)
- 2 pans for the colored Jell-O cubes (8×8)
- 1 pan for the final Jell-O mold (9×13)
Let’s Get Started
- Grab the red and blue Jell-O boxes. Follow the instructions on the box and pour each color into an individual container.
- Refrigerate the red and blue Jell-O containers until it’s set and firm (approximately 3-4 hours).
- Once the red and blue Jell-O is firm, take them out of the fridge and cut them into cubes of any size you prefer.
- Pour the red and blue cubes into a 9×13 dish or themed pan of your choice. Carefully mix or move the cubes around without breaking apart the cubes. Place back into the fridge to remain cold and maintain their shape.
- With a large bowl, pour in 2 cups of boiling water and dissolve the 2 packets of unflavored gelatin.
- Once the gelatin and water are cool enough, add the sweetened condensed milk.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk mixture into the dish with the red and blue cubes. Make sure the condensed milk mixture is not too hot or it will dissolve the Jell-O cubes.
- For the best results, let it sit overnight or for at least 5 hours to get completely firm.
- Cut into fun shapes or squares and serve with a smile!
