How Motherhood Inspired Me to Start Indoor Gardening?
In one of my very first posts, I talk about how motherhood is similar to gardening. Just as seeds, we need to be nurtured in order to grow. We have to allow ourselves time to grow into the mother we aim to be.

Alright, think about it this way. When I became a mother, I started as a tiny seed in the dirt. Here, I am as a seed, surrounded by all of these other full grown plants. It’s kinda hard to not be bummed out when it seems like forever until I become a beautiful and strong plant like them.
Now mamas, think about this metaphor closely and really let it plant some thoughts in you- especially for the first time mamas out there! As mothers, we are told to that we have a natural instinct to care for our children. For some of us, motherhood may not come naturally. We are constantly bringing ourselves down and comparing ourselves to other mothers.
What I’m getting at here is, we all have our own struggles. Just like we all have different growth rates and paths into motherhood. Is this process easy? Heck no!
Growing is hard because sometimes you are faced with difficult choices and you’re afraid to choose the wrong one. Sometimes, things happen that are just out of your control. Those pivotal moments are the defining moments in our motherhood journey or honestly, just life in general. I’ve done some growing and I am STILL growing. I admit to making mistakes along my journey, but looking back I know that’s what led me to this very moment. I am a growing mother, nurturing my son to grow into an incredible man.
Just like motherhood, I have to provide my son with good morals and values, give him the space to grow, and know when to step in. When my plant grows new leaves, it’s a reminder of the many milestones that I have made as a mother as well as the developmental milestones of my son. As I begin this journey of indoor gardening, I feel like it is a huge symbol for my growth in motherhood as well as my son’s life.
My motherhood journey has been the driving force behind my new hobby- indoor gardening. Before buying all these lovely plants for my home, I wanted to make sure that I knew how to care for them. I had to learn about the proper soil, when to water, and when to weed.
I definitely am not a pro, but I have done lots of reading on indoor gardening. My favorite book so far is Living with Plants: A Guide to Indoor Gardening, I started buying plants locally from the Farmers Market, but I noticed some of the plants were damaged or already struggling. As a new indoor gardener, I wasn’t prepared to take on that responsibility. I needed more resources and healthy plants.
I recently found a company based in San Diego that ships HIGH QUALITY plants right to your door- Lively Root! I couldn’t believe it when I unboxed my very first shipment of plants! They were beautiful, strong, and in great shape for being shipped in a box! I could tell that these plants were given VIP (very important plant) treatment!
Lively Root is incredible because they provide TONS of tips and resources to educate you on the plants you purchase! I always get these beautiful cards with 4-1-1 on what exactly my plant friend needs to thrive! Talk about AMAZING right!? But wait, there’s more!
When you are purchasing a new plant friend, you can search for Pet Friendly plants to keep your little furry friend safe! I recently bought a Fiddle Leaf Tree, and with the information given to me from Lively Root, I learned to keep it on a plant stand because it’s toxic to dogs if ingested. I plan to keep it on a plant stand to keep our dog, Mochi, safe.
I am so excited to dive into indoor gardening and turn my house into a beautiful plant sanctuary! Every day I get to walk around and reflect on my journey as a mother. I am constantly reminded to be joyful for every new leaf that grows or in my case, every time my son reaches a new milestone. Will I make mistakes, absolutely! But I am willing to be patient and grow through what I go through!
Sure, having plants in you home comes with many benefits like purifying your air, but it also brings you happiness! You don’t need to have a green thumb to become a plant parent!
